The connections network technologies create between distant spaces, objects, and people result in an extended experience of place.
This interconnectedness entails a constantly shifting combination of qualities, engendering places that are subject to continuous reconfigurations: Indeterminate Places.
Analogously to how the sound of an instrument in a physical space unveils the characteristics of the acoustics, the project explores compositional and performative strategies designed to reveal the foundational qualities of telematically constructed Indeterminate Places.
It explores artistic strategies for distant distributed interaction between musicians, musical instruments, and performance spaces.Through performance with telematically connected pipe organs, the project aims to gain knowledge of how sound can be processed to create meaningful interactions with remote musical instruments and acoustic spaces.
Further, it aims to explore how a performer can engage in embodied interactions with remote musical instruments and how reconfiguring network relationships may affect such interactions. The project is structured as an artistic research laboratory in four distinct Scenarios, within which the method is to create phenomenological variations on artistic materials generated by reconfiguring the design of the networked interactions.Beyond its impact on network performance research, the project contributes to the development of artistic research methods through laboratory practices.
