Resource Efficient and Inclusive Municipalities through Industrial Symbiosis

A sustainable and climate-neutral society is based on using available resources as efficiently as possible. This requires more collaboration and a larger systems perspective.

To identify and create commercial, sustainable and innovative collaborations between companies and other operations new ways of working are needed - industrial symbiosis is an excellent example of this.

Acceptance of efforts for the transition to a more climate-neutral society is one of the keys to success.In this project, we intend to use a five-step model to test how companies and other operations can work together in industrial symbiosis, investigate how municipalities can support such development and work to find a structure that in the long run can support municipalities in a region in driving development within industrial symbiosis.

From a local perspective, someone must be responsible for identifying and evaluating various opportunities for industrial symbiosis, and someone must lead and drive the process of realizing solutions.

Here municipalities can play an important role as a facilitator.The symbiotic cooperation enables companies in rural areas, which have otherwise seen a negative development, to become more competitive and to develop their business based on the unique conditions that exist there, which evokes pride, opportunities to provide for yourself and faith in the future.
