Grant Description

Today´s societies face extensive challenges linked to both climate change and social (in)justice.

Despite that the mutual relationship between such ecological and social challenges is increasingly being recognized, the work with climate neutrality and environmental sustainability on the one hand, and social sustainability, inclusion, and equality on the other, is to a large extent shaped and driven by different legislation, governance models, methods, and professions.

This, in turn, risks leading to that important synergies between the various sustainability dimensions are undiscovered or unused, and to possible goal conflicts not being dealt with at an early stage.Public organisations must increase their capacity to actively work with social and environmental sustainability issues in planning and policy, recognise and manage possible conflicts and find and take advantage of synergies.

Therefore, the project "Capacity Building for Eco-Social Integration" aims to create knowledge of how strategies for climate change can be strengthened by considering social perspectives, as well as vice versa.Researchers from Lund University will, through evaluating research, analyse Lund municipality´s ongoing work with eco-social integration and propose possible ways to develop and strengthen the integration of such aspects into the city´s ordinary operations and processes.
