Purpose and goal:

With relevant industry and research, we wanted to evaluate and carry out a first "proof of concept" for the application Near Net Shape with our technology in combination with HIP (Hot Isostatic Preassure). The strategy here is that PAMP creates a geometry consisting of metal powder and the Quintus process solidifies the geometry and gives the material the properties desired through HIP.

Participating in the project are Quintus AB, RISE and Linköping University with material experts in metallic materials and PAMP AB with the process technology green body production. Expected results and effects:

With the positive results we have received, we can now say that the process is working as intended. With stage 2 of the project now granted, we will move forward with more metallic materials and broaden our focus to find applications and materials where we can offer added value with our technology. We have an incredibly strong and motivated team who all feel that we are on the right track and contribute constructively to further development!

Approach and implementation:

The tests we have carried out are to create small green bodies from metal powder in both iron and 316L. The first quantity of green bodies produced was analyzed in a microscope and SEM and underwent density measurements. The results we received from these examinations gave us parameters for the next round of green bodies, and some of these underwent HIP treatment.

The results indicate that the green bodies achieve gas density, which is the requirement for HIP to work, and that we can press several partial volumes into a coherent green body that can also be solidified into a metal body.
