Procurment strategies for construction clients

In order to promote innovation in the civil engineering sector and with that, new solutions and a diversity of business models, current procurement practices and structure need to be questioned.

The need for innovationis found in both small and large clients, where the knowledge and the conditions required to work in new ways with procurement are often lacking.The purpose of the project is to, based on previous research and experience, develop a concept with concrete methods and strategies for procurement that enables innovation.

The concept should act as a facilitator for client organizations to understand, want and be able to design procurements that invite innovative collaborations.

The concept is also expected to make it easier for actors in the construction industry, or actors who want to enter the construction industry, to be given the opportunity to contribute to innovation in construction through collaborations with clients with the support of the concept.

In order for the project to result in a long-term result that leads to a concrete effect, it is required that the concept contains an elaborate format to achieve "understand, want and be able". It is also required that the format is designed for long-term distribution and management.

Thus, one of four proposed possible formats for knowledge dissemination, management and concept dissemination must be developed within the framework of the concept.The implementation of the project will take place through three work packages, with knowledge acquisition, compilation and analysis of existing and pilot-tested strategies, methods, working methods and tools, as well as advantages, disadvantages, effects, risks and opportunities for different formats for dissemination and management.

Based on the outcome of the first two work packages, it is decided which format for dissemination should be linked to the concept. The last work package thus consists of development of the decided format.
