Purpose and goal:
The aim is to compile how bio-based components can be substituted into security buildings´ different security levels, as well as what further development is needed.
The hypothesis is that security buildings can substitute more bio-based materials in the constructions and achieve a reduced climate footprint while keeping budget and schedule, in order to be competitive.
The goal is an action plan, proposal and consortium for the further development of innovative safety-classified bio-based components. Expected results and effects:
Construction of prisons and other secure properties run by the government will increase in the coming years. The project explores whether wood can replace concrete on a larger scale and contribute to reducing the sector´s climate impact. The fact-gathering shows that there is potential to replace and substitute more wood and bio-based materials in all types of security buildings but also reduce CO2e/m2 emission.
Some already existing technology can be used through more information to the customer and client, but improvements and innovations are also needed for increased application Approach and implementation:
The project has been carried out through fact-gathering, interviews, two physical workshops and a digital study visit to find out how load-bearing wood-based components can be substituted into secure buildings with different security levels and what further development is needed. Comparison between traditional execution and proposed alternative solutions has been carried out and calculate CO22e/m2 emission with LCA.
An action plan and continued proposal for further development of innovative safety-classified bio-based components has been started.
