Purpose and goal:
The study aimed to lower the thresholds for a shift from conventional wall systems to systems with lower environmental impact and a more efficient use of natural resources. The project´s objective was to describe and prequalify new systems based on low-value bio-based materials for subsequent evaluation in a demonstration project. The project´s objective and aim have not been fully met.
Only conceptual systems have been assembled and full pre-qualification of the systems was not possible. The control program has however contributed to clarifying what is required for new systems. Expected results and effects:
The system perspective for evaluation of new interior wall systems is an advantageous path for large-scale implementation of bioinnovative materials. The pre-qualification according to the project plan was not feasible due to limited adequate material availability, time frame and changed organization. Individual substitution of bioinnovative subcomponents is possible with fully or partially fulfilled functional requirements, but not at system level.
The control program shared in Andersson & Andersson (2023) constitutes a good basis for future evaluations of new systems. Approach and implementation:
The design of the project referred to two overlapping work packages, where the first referred to the establishment of control programs at system level as well as the compilation and identification of adequate low-value bio-based inner wall systems. Work package 2 concerned pre-qualification accordning to suggested control program of the systems identified in package 1.
Difficulties in identifying substitutes for plasterboard with adequate technical and aesthetic properties were judged to be decisive for the incomplete outcome of the project.
