Purpose and goal:
The purpose of the pre-study was to verify a completely new concept for the development of optical fibers containing nanoparticles by combining two individually unique processes. Our main objective was to carry out a number of experimental tests to verify this concept and identify possible challenges before planning and implementing a larger FoI project. Through this feasibility study, we have essentially fulfilled our aim and objective and jointly prepared a plan for continued development work.
Expected results and effects:
The results from the pre-study have largely confirmed our approach. Production of nanoparticles in liquid through powerful laser technology together with laser-based fiber manufacturing is a promising method for the production of optical fibers with nanoparticles. At the same time, a number of challenges have been identified, including the production of particles with a smaller size to reduce optical transmission losses, increasing the production rate of nanoparticles, and adapting and validating this technology in an industrial environment.
Approach and implementation: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
We have had a good plan for carrying out the pre-study with a successful mix of actors. The combination of the actors´ different resources and key competences has strongly contributed to the pre-study´s results. The "powder in tube" method used has worked satisfactorily well in the pre-study, but continued development requires adaptation and the inclusion of conventional production methods such as MCVD and furnace-based fiber draft towers.
