Purpose and goal:
All objective were fulfilled; we studied the wear mechanism of two existing Mn steels. Accordingly, we implemented the new alloy design strategies to design new alloys with high wear resistance and lower density compared to existing alloys. After casting the designed alloy, we studied the wear behavior and correlated the behavior to the microstructure.
The results were promising and showed a fruitful cooperation between the parties, and therefore the consortium is looking for other funding opportunities to expand the activities to a larger project. Expected results and effects: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The designed alloy showed a comparable (slightly better) wear resistance compared to the existing solutions, where the density of the alloy is between 10-20% lower than the existing alloys. This is promising and with further optimization of the alloy design and processing there may be an opportunity to further reduce the density and develop phases that are more resistant to wear.
The expected effect is longer service life for the industrial components and reduced energy consumption by reducing the weight of the components. Approach and implementation: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The results obtained were promising as a feasibility study, which showed the potential of using modern alloy design strategies to reduce the weight and improve the wear resistance of steel. This will be a good basis for expanding the research collaboration through a larger project that the consortium is planning for.
