”SOS – Sustain our soils” is a film project that deals with two of the most urgent challenges of our time: climate change and how tom produce enough food, feed, fibre and fuel for a global population that might exceed 10 billion by 2050.
A solution is being sought in the common denominator of carbon, in soil, crops and in the air.The aim is to reach out to the “interested layman”, opinion leaders, politicians and farmers showing both the necessity and the possibility for a new fourth green agrarian revolution.
A change to new agricultural methods, based on advanced bioscience, systems ecology, and precision agriculture may sequester more carbon from the air through improved biomass production and incorporating it into soil organic carbon.
By doing so, soil fertility, soil health and biodiversity will increase and the risk of soil degradation through different types of erosion will decrease, as well as nutrient leakage. The project will result in two outputs, a longer documentary feature suited for public media and a set of shorter films concentrating on specific parts of the agricultural processes during a growing season.
The shorter films will be shown as inspiration and information at local meetings or conferences for farmers, advisers and others with amore specific interest in how to create a high yielding agricultural system combining high productivity with low or no negative environmental impact and a negative carbon source.
