Mobilisation arena - Socially sustainable industry

Purpose and goal:

The project comprises initial study to be presented in a mobilisation arena, gathering over 300 parties. It aims to contribute to enhanced social sustainability and global competitiveness in Swedish industry. The purpose of the project is to identify where the innovation system can focus to support development towards more socially sustainable industry, in the areas of "influence", " value creation and meaning".

Expected results and effects:

There are several examples of industries in Sweden that generate global climate benefits, but where the local impact has been perceived as less positive. At the same time, there are good examples where industrial operations have created new values, natural and cultural environments. What can we learn from these and ensure that local benefits are planned in a process characterized by inclusion, value creation and meaning?

Approach and implementation:

We supplement the literature on sustainable business and social license to operate, with 4-5 case studies analysing incentives, obstacles, and success factors. We also present a selection of good examples from abroad.

We have linked an interdisciplinary research group in environmental economics, law, cultural geography, and political science to the project. The final design of the case studies will be done in collaboration with a broad reference group with representatives from civil society, business, and the public sector.
