KDT JU 2021 IA NewLife

Purpose and goal:

There is an increasing focus on the wellbeing of mothers and babies, both before and after delivery to prevent mother and perinatal morbidity and mortality. NewLife project will develop innovative non-invasive technologies, in the form of sensorized wearable garments, for gathering vital data, advanced algorithms and cloud-based solutions for their analysis and presentation to practitioners and parents. This holistic approach will ensure the health of mothers and babies before and after birth.

Expected results and effects:

At completion, Newlife will deliver a holistic set of tools, both software and hardware, that will enable the home monitoring of mothers and babies during the latest stage of the pregnancy. These not only will improve the care and wellbeing of the patients but will also represent a significant step towards digitalized health care with significant benefit both for both the patients (more punctual and effective monitoring) and the health care providers (more sustainable usage of resources).

Approach and implementation:

At the start of the project the needs from practitioners and inputs from patients will be gathered and translated into technological specifications. Furthermore, commercially available sensors will be evaluated. Existing wearable solutions will be used to develop the cloud-based tool (companion application). Finally inputs from previous activities will be used to develop the sensorized wearable garments that will be tested, in conjunction with the companion application, in clinical setting.
