Holistic Value Model for the mining industry

Purpose and goal: The project’s aim is to further move Sweden’s position as a sustainable and reliable mining nation forward by developing a new decision model for projects that incorporates ESG (environmental, social, governmental) factors in a comparable way to today’s more easily calculated directs costs

and revenues. With a new model, the industry can both show that ESG factors have a real impact on investment decisions, but also that by considering these factors new types of financially relevant risks and opportunities will be included, and hence improve financial transparency and performance. Expected results and effects:

The project goals are:

- Develop a detailed holistic value model concept design based on an international best practise and current state analysis - Demonstrate a proof-of-concept of the holistic value model in a real-life pilot case - Evaluate quantitative value impact of the model with relevant stakeholders - Develop a generic model that can be designed and implemented industry-wide

Approach and implementation: The project is conducted in five different work packages: 1. Project coordination: management, meetings, reporting

2. Concept design: international best practice analysis and current situation analysis. Rework of the concept from the preliminary study 3. Proof-of-concept through a pilot case: together with Boliden, test the concept in a real case 4. Evaluation pilot and effect analysis: Careful evaluation of the pilot and what effects an implementation can have

5. Dissemination of results: communicate results from the project and establish contacts with other initiatives
