Grant Description

Purpose and goal: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **

The goal of mapping the forest biogenic carbon flows has been well achieved and an educational illustration of the complex system with all its parts is included in the report. Expected results and effects:

This study provides an overall picture of carbon flows in the forest-based value chains in Sweden in 2020. The focus is on the biomass content of renewable carbon atoms. Data from public statistics, trade associations and individual companies have bee used and compiled.

19 Mt of carbon was extracted from the Swedish forests, divided into about 8 Mt in pulpwood, 9 Mt in sawlogs and 2.4 Mt in fuelwood and residual products. In addition, the equivalent of just over 1.9 Mt of carbon was imported. Approach and implementation: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **

Data for the mapping is collected from available static databases, the academic literature and from interviews of key persons. A collection of actors has subsequently participated in conversations about the overall picture of the biogenic carbon flows. In interviews and conversations, they have also identified knowledge gaps and potential for technical development of the carbon flows with the goal of using a greater proportion of the raw material in products and less that is released into the atmosphere in the form of carbon dioxide.
