Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The main aim and objective of the project was utilizing support from Vinnova to enable MSCA researcher Salil´s assimilation into RISE via equipment training and language lessons. These efforts facilitated his active involvement in departmental activities and collaboration with colleagues. As Salil integrated, he also studied effect of Cu and Zn impurities arising from recycling on corrosion in AA6063.

All scientific objectives were also met, and this has paved the way for future sustainability initiatives through increased use of recycling materials. Expected results and effects:

Significant efforts from both the employer and MSCA researcher has resulted in successful integration of Salil into the organization to the point that RISE has decided to hire him permanently. His expertise was utilized in the scientific investigation of impact of recycling on corrosion. This understanding aids in identifying governing factors for corrosion in recycled alloys, enhancing their reuse potential.

The results of the project have also enhanced the organization’s ability to support the transition of Swedish companies to a more sustainable future. Approach and implementation:

This research was designed to examine customer demand-driven choices of wrought alloy and recycled compositions. Microstructural factors were investigated using advanced microscopy techniques. To study corrosion initiation and propagation, immersion tests were performed in 0.1M NaCl solution for varying durations.

Following the microscopy campaigns, a data-driven analysis was conducted to identify governing factors, thereby yielding comprehensive insight into the microstructure and corrosion of the chosen alloys.
