Grant Description

Purpose and goal:

The purpose is to establish traceable measurement of dynamic pressure based on quantum mechanical properties of the pressure gas molecules using optical absorption spectroscopy. That will be used to validate the existing shock tube theoretical model currently used to assess the reference pressure under dynamic conditions. More reliable model leads to minimizing the uncertainties and assure highly accurate dynamic pressure calibration.

Expected results and effects: The results are:

- Development of a standard for measuring dynamic pressure based on quantum mechanical properties of the pressure gas molecules using optical absorption spectroscopy. - Characterization of the response of the developed standard in the frequency domain. - Estimation of the accuracy and the uncertainty of the developed standard.

- Dissemination of the results through one scientific publication and presentations in relevant workshops. Approach and implementation: The project consists of the following activities: - Building the absorption spectroscopy system and performing initial measurements under static conditions.

- Developing a theoretical model that describes best the experimental results using the available spectroscopic database. - Validating the method under dynamic conditions and calculating the uncertainty budget. - Publishing the results in an open-access journal.
