Purpose and goal:
Dynamic pressure measurements play a vital role in several demanding fields where the accuracy and reliability of measured data have a direct impact on the processes. This places emphasis on SI traceability requiring well established standards and methods. However, there is lack of traceability and suitable primary standards, particularly in the 740 MPa range with sufficient frequency bandwidth.
The main goal of the project is to establish traceability for dynamic pressure measurement - by extending converging shock wave theory - in the stated range and frequency bandwidth. Expected results and effects:
In this project, a shock tube will be modified and fitted with a unique converging section combining the principles of a ‘converging’ and ‘conventional’ shock tube technology which amplifies and preserves the reference pressure. This extends the operating pressure range to 40 MPa, establishing traceability for in the high-pressure regime. The method is also applicable for realizing other parameters, like temperature (
