Purpose and goal:
The usefulness of numerical simulations to support decisions in industrial applications is conditional upon the credibility of the computed results. The goal of the project TRUSTIT is to share knowledge and to promote best practices to address the risks and limitations that characterize quality management of numerical simulations in product development.
The information exchange between the participating organizations will consider the challenges faced by complete vehicle virtual verification as well as the existing concepts, methods, and tools to address them. Expected results and effects:
The project TRUSTIT is expected to generate useful knowledge and processes to overcome existing challenges in the virtual development of electrified and autonomous vehicles, such as uncertainty in the market, evolving regulatory frameworks (e.g., about pollutant emissions), and growing technical complexity of products. The project will contribute to the development of more sustainable transportation solutions.
The outcomes of TRUSTIT might provide useful insights also for other industrial sectors that strategically rely on numerical simulations for product development. Approach and implementation:
One researcher from RISE will spend part of his working time at Volvo Cars between January and October 2023, specifically in the team responsible for the management and development of the complete vehicle simulation tool VSIM. Planned activities include: 1) the assignment of analysis tasks to the researcher to familiarize with the current workflow and computational methods; 2) development of 1-2 case studies to illustrate concepts and methods for uncertainty quantification, model verification and validation; 3) organization of workshops with technical specialists at Volvo Cars.
