The goal is to build a Swedish satellite within the agrifoodTEF network to promote the development and use of European AI and robot solutions that support more sustainable agriculture.

The Swedish satellite is part of an agile expert and infrastructure network within the framework of Test and experiment facilities (TEF) in the DIGITAL program from the EU. agrifoodTEF consists of eight nodes and satellites around Europe providing world-class expertise and state-of-the-art infrastructure in AI and agriculture.

Food is a key sector for achieving the EU´s sustainability goals. Although digital tools, AI and robotics have the potential to greatly help the food sector transform into a sector with sustainable production and a circular economy, uptake is so far low.

The main objective of AgrifoodTEF is to promote the development and use of European AI, data and robotics solutions in agriculture and thus ensure the transition to a circular economy for a more sustainable, affordable, efficient and competitive high-standard production. The Swedish satellite is led by RISE, which has broad and deep expertise in relevant areas with support from AstaZero, which has expertise in vehicle validation and testing. RISE Jordbruk and Livsmedel lead the work and have a long history of innovation in the food system. Other parts of RISE participate with expertise in AI and validation.

RISE has several facilities that will be further developed within TEF to support the needs of agriculture and the food system both today and tomorrow, for example RISE Testbädd Digitaliserat Jordbruk.
