Purpose and goal:
VOC Diagnostics AB, in collaboration with Skåne, Lund and Linköping Universities, and the Gynecological Cancer Network, is developing a novel method and instrument for the early diagnosis of ovarian cancer through a blood test. The project includes technical development, clinical and patient validation at the pre-industrialization level. The project will lead to the company´s instrument and methodology meeting set goals in terms of sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility, and patient safety.
Expected results and effects:
A high degree of collaboration and information exchange between the project parties is expected to achieve the project’s goals. The clinical data generated in the pilot study will allow to train the classification algorithm in the instrument with high accuracy. User requirements from both the healthcare and patient perspective will be set against technical conditions to handle the instrument and the samples in the best possible way and ensure reliable and high quality data.
Approach and implementation:
The instrument will be located in research laboratories and handled by qualified personnel. The diagnostic method will be implemented to achieve a reasonable degree of automaticity, good functionality, and ease-to-use. Handling samples and instrument will be implemented to be simple and safe for the laboratory staff. Targeted efforts to achieve acceptance of the method will include publications, seminars, fairs, contacts with Key Opinion Leaders, the scientific community and gynecology corps.
