Purpose and goal:
This project aims to further develop a medical technology product developed by Neola Medical AB in Lund, Neola®, and expand the patient group from premature babies to older children. The instrument, based on optical technology, enables continuous measurement of lung function in children of different ages for immediate detection of serious lung complications, leading to better care and better quality of life for children who need to be sedated for surgery and cared for in intensive care units.
Expected results and effects:
The medical technology product Neola® is developed by Neola Medical AB for monitoring the lungs of premature babies. The aim of this project is to develop the equipment with a stronger light source, evaluate a safe method for internal lighting and characterize the use in simple models. The expected result is that we will demonstrate in simple models that monitoring the lungs of larger patients is a possible function and lay the foundation for future clinical trials.
Approach and implementation:
Implementation of the project will begin with the development and optimization of a stronger laser system for GASMAS measurements. Once a working system is in place, tests will be performed on simple tissue models, followed by more complex in vitro animal models. In parallel, the possibility of internal illumination will also be investigated. Basic market research will be initiated at the beginning of the project, which will be refined and completed as the system´s performance is characterized.
