Lead halide perovskites are semiconductors with excellent optoelectronic properties, which can easily be prepared using solution-based methods at low cost.
In this project, we will combine perovskites with organic dye molecules to form novel hybrid solar cells and light-emitting diodes with new functionalities and improved stability.
Specifically, modification of perovskites with organic dyes will be used to passivate interfaces and defects in the perovskite and to sensitize them in order to extend their spectral response. This should improve the optoelectronic performance of perovskite devices and increase their long-term stability.
Secondly, dyes will be used as to probes to study ion migration in perovskite-based devices, a crucial fundamental aspect that needs more attention before future application of these devices. We will study all of these aspects using steady state and transient opto-electrical measurements.
This is a 4-year PhD project, in which the candidate will synthesize and characterize all dye-modified perovskite opto-electronic devices, supervised by the PI and with experimental assistance of the PI.
