Energy Futures for Northern Sweden

Purpose and goal:

The purpose of the project was to create broader discussion and dialogue about the ongoing energy transition through the development of fictional stories about energy futures for northern Sweden. A further aim was to learn and develop methods of foresight and speculative design through "narrative hackathons". These aims have been achieved through the interest that the project has aroused, and the proposals for future collaboration that the work has led to.

The book, printed in 200 copies, is distributed to participants in the project, and stakeholders both in Sweden and abroad. Expected results and effects: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **

Those who had the greatest interest in the project were, as could have been predicted, those who are already involved in the energy and climate transition, although not only in northern Sweden. The project team has (and will) talk about the work, including at Society Summit in Skellefteå, The Drop in Malmö and Anticipation ´24 in Lancaster, UK.

The layout of the project had to be adapted as the project team learned more, and several things took longer than planned. The clearest example was the visa process for the American science fiction author, which caused the entire project to start six months later than planned. It was also more difficult than planned to hire independent illustrators, which meant that we had to turn to a contracted design agency.
