Purpose and goal:
The project aimed to investigate how data collection from vehicles can support the transition towards an electric vehicle fleet in the public secotor. The project focused on Västra Götalandsregionens (VGR) transition. The goal of the project is to investigate prerequisites to enable data collection from vehicles and analysis of data.
When high reliability is requested data is collected manually from several systems. VGRs data collection is ongoing and telematics is being installed on the various vehicles to collect data. How this data is collected and stored is unclear. Expected results and effects:
The project has contributed to identifying ambiguities linked to data collection (GDPR and patient confidentiality) with a focus on expanded data collection. It is unclear what is sensitive data, how it is stored (and by whom) in order to support analyses. The project has identified a need for decision-making support for the electrification of vehicles as well as a need for coordination and strategies around issues such as charging infrastructure, planned charging and utilization rate of electrified vehicles.
Approach and implementation:
The project has combined qualitative and quantitative data analysis. The qualitative part consisted of interviews with stakeholders and decision-makers within VGR as well as workshops with a focus on electrification and its challenges. The quantitative part consisted of analyzing the existing fleet within VGR but was limited by a lack of information from the part of the fleet that was connected.
The benefit analysis has been limited to public information from the vehicle register and due to lack of data no deeper analyzes have been carried out.
