Purpose and goal:
The project intends to review the possibility of implementing a complete driver monitoring and cab monitoring system for trucks that are currently in production. This is seen as an important step in the development towards fully self-driving trucks, so-called "full automation" (level 5). The system must be used in a scenario of "conditional automation" (level 3) and "high automation" (level 4), which has eligibility requirements on a driver´s presence and vigilance in the vehicle as well as availability to be able to take over control of the vehicle at given times.
Expected results and effects:
The result of this project is expected to be an increased understanding of what a technical implementation for a driver monitoring and cab monitoring system looks like. An aspiring result is also a well-defined interface for how handovers and warnings take place between driver and truck for different types of situations.
Approach and implementation:
The planning of the project is divided into 3 phases. Phase 1 consist of defining application and use cases. This lays the foundation for what the user interface, test cases, system architecture and hardware look like. Phase 2 turns to determining optimal camera placement and integration of the hardware for the project. The final phase, Phase 3, consists of tests to evaluate the system´s performance in order to draw conclusions for further studies.
