In the proposed project, novel materials will be syntesized and evaluated as catalysts for direct partial oxidation of biomethane to biomethanol.
Specifically, zeolites and zeotypes with narrow pore structure will be synthesized and functionalized with highly dispersed transition metal ions, providing the active sites for partial oxidation of methane to methanol.
The project combines synthesis and functionalization of zeolites and zeotypes, in situ spectroscopy, microcalorimetry, and kinetic measurements of catalytic activity and selectivity for methanol formation.
The approach targets one of the dream reactions in heterogeneous catalysis and will increase the impact of catalysis research in Sweden.
