We propose to develop and use operando set-ups and methodologies at MAX IV to provide knowledge on key questions relevant for battery industry. The project has four work packages.
WP 1 concern management with joint activities that allow for for educating the Swedish battery researchers in academia and industry together on possibilities and accessibility at MAX IV.
These joint activities will be used to develop interconnected research topics that are inspired by the needs defined by industry and aim at measuring prototype-structures in operation (operando).
WP 2 will develop operando set up and methodology at BALDER, WP 3 will use and develop operando methodology for battery material studies at VERITAS/SPECIES, and WP 4 development of set up and methodology for combined electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and ambient pressure photoelectron spectroscopy (APPES) at HIPPIE.
The main work will be done by a PhD-student, and two PostDocs/researcher supervised by a team from Uppsala University, KTH and MAX IV including long term visits at MAXIV.
This team has previously long experience from this type of development and from collaborations with each other, battery industry as well as MAX IV.
With this workplan the project outcome will be both development of methodology and operando set ups, connection between the battery electrochemistry and spectroscopic knowledge from operating batteries, as well as increasing the accessibility of the research infrastructure by industry.
