People with deafblindness have a combined vision- and hearing impairment of such degree that the senses fail to compensate for each other. This can have great impact on the possibilities to be active and participate in everyday life and in society. People with deafblindness are at risk of poor health, isolation and communication difficulties.
Hence, society has to provide support to people with deafblindness to meet their needs and everyday functioning.Evaluated and validated interventions are lacking within rehabilitation units that provide support to individuals with deafblindness.
Reports have acknowledged that there is a gap between clinical settings and research. The purpose is to develop and test a procedure to validate the Life adjustment psycho-educative intervention used in rehabilitation as a group intervention for persons living with deafblindness.
The aims are to test the feasibility of questionnaires and interviews and to plan for a health economic evaluation of the intervention.A mixed method design will be employed.
Questionnaires are used to evaluate health related quality of life, sense of coherence and self-compassion, before and after the intervention. Qualitative interviews are conducted to explore expectations before and experiences after the intervention.
Reference groups of professionals and people with deafblindness will take active part in the pre-study to develop the procedure to validate the Life adjustment psycho-educative intervention.
