Purpose and goal:
Lithium-ion based batteries are the most commonly used rechargeable batteries in the IoT market today. The battery life and the form/function factors (bulky, toxic, expensive, flammable) are currently some of the biggest hurdles for the growth of IoT applications. The consortium partners aim to provide sustainable, bio-based energy storage solutions that will challenge the status quo.
Expected results and effects:
In this project, Ligna partners with GPBM France - experts in batteries for industrial applications- to "design in" the S-power storage into two specific IoT sensor applications. The project will prove that green and maintenance-free powering of sensors is feasible, making a significant difference to boost the growth of IoT.
Approach and implementation:
The project is structured into six work packages. We start with specifying system and business requirements on the sensors. The subsequent work includes battery technology adaptation to the selected applications, development of the prototypes, validation, and testing. The partners will also actively disseminate information about project progress to stimulate broader industry interest in this technology.
