Purpose and goal:
Monitoring and analysis of the significant scientific development that continues to take place in China and the production of supporting data for the work of the research funders is of importance, not least given current increasing geopolitical tensions. STINT’s office in China has been identified as an important resource for the research funders’ work with China and as a tool to strengthen Swedish universities’ strategies, activities and networks vis-à-vis China.
The project goal is to streamline how IntSam’s China group as well as Swedish research actors can utilize this resource. Expected results and effects:
The project aims to create a more informed and coordinated mode of working amongst the research funders within the framework of IntSam, to facilitate at process for organizational skills enhancement, and in an active way contribute to policy improvements at a system level. The purpose is for Swedish research actors to be able to strengthen their competitiveness, interact with scientifically strong research environments in China, and to do so in a responsible manner.
Approach and implementation:
The project will initially do an inventory of the research funders evaluation templates for international research projects/call for proposals including what challenges they see in their programs. A meta-analysis of the collected information together with a workshop with the research funders and universities will then form the basis for proposals for a) program improvements, b) educational efforts, c) needs for policy-support at a system level, and d) structures for how current monitoring and analysis can effectively strengthen Swedish research collaboration with China.
