Purpose and goal: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The development of affordable fuel cell (FC) technologies is crucial for a sustainable society with green hydrogen as an energy carrier. Pt is an efficient catalyst, but its high cost and scarcity limit its use. The catalytic layer of proton exchange membrane FC (PEMFCs) cathode contains 80-90% of the required Pt.
This is due to the slow oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Pt nanoparticles with specific crystalline surfaces can enhance ORR activity. This project aims to explore Pt-NP from recycled sources to improve PEMFC performance. Expected results and effects: ** Denna text är maskinöversatt **
The expected PEMFC catalyst is a combination of recycled Pt-based shaped nanostructures (e.g., octahedra or cubes) on high surface area carbonaceous electrocatalytic support with as low metal loading as possible. The results of the research will contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for the growing demand for fuel cell technologies.
Approach and implementation:
Maj-Juli 2023: Purchase and procurement of initial materials and partnerships with reliable value stream companies in the fuel cell market segment. Aug 2023-Feb 2024: Scale-up green sustainable manufacturing process of Pt and Pt/Ni nanoparticles with specific crystal facets and integration on PEM membrane systems. Nov 2023-May 2024: Performance validation of MEA together with test clients via co-development agreement.
Jan 2024-May 2024: Reach out to actors in the market for fuel cell technologies to establish new profitable business relationships.
