Purpose and goal:

The vision of the ‘Embedded control system for hydraulic attachment and industrial equipment’ project is to develop key enabling energy solutions by harvesting energy from ambient sources to power sensor system in hydraulic attachments and industrial equipment. Energy harvesting is the most promising technology for smart miniaturized self-powered sensor systems essential for Industry 4.0.

The specific objective of this project is to develop a harvesting concept specifically for hydraulic attachments and industrial equipment. Expected results and effects:

This project will identify the relevant and efficient places to harvest energy on a hydraulic attachment and rotating drivelines for industrial applications, concept solution for multi-source energy possibility. Also, as the project will give an important insight for both partners in the demands on R&D for energy harvesting for industrial application, will strengthen both research & Innovation competence and investments for knowledge and advanced digitization with sustainable technologies and pro-active work for environmental goals.

Approach and implementation:

We will i) define the specific energy needs for sensing and automation, ii) explore the critical aspects of energy harvesting systems (components and technologies), iii) investigate and characterize various transduction principles for harvesting energy by measuring different energy sources on hydraulic and industrial equipment (e.g. vibration/ strain, thermal gradient, rotational energy).
