Purpose and goal:
The strategic innovation program Metallic materials aims to realize the strategic research and innovation agenda "National gathering around metallic materials" through its own efforts as well as by supplementing, strengthening and inspiring other efforts that contribute to fulfilling the agenda. The agenda is drawn up in collaboration between Sweden´s metal-producing and -processing industries and in turn aims to make Sweden an innovative, attractive and competitive country in the metal sector.
Expected results and effects:
The program is expected to strengthen the innovation power and thus competitiveness of the Swedish metal industry, not least by equipping the industry for the globally ongoing transition to sustainability. This is expected to happen through the program increasing knowledge in areas such as electrification, artificial intelligence, recycling and circularity and more.
Approach and implementation:
The evaluations carried out in 2019 and 2022 showed that the program has been successful and was able to reach the absolute majority of its goals. The 2022 evaluation also highlighted the need for more follow-up, especially benchmarking against other countries, before the end of the program.
The focus during stage 4 will be to finish the ongoing efforts, follow up and analyze the program, and plan for the future in the form of, among other things, developing exit strategies.
