Purpose and goal:
Multi-material designs are advantageous for creating lightweight and circular products. However, such designs pose great challenges in terms of efficient and robust joining methods of the different materials. This project will evaluate and develop new, resistance welding based, techniques for joining of multi-material components.
A successful project will enable more cost- and time efficient solutions and decrease weight and environmental impact since the use of additional fasteners can be avoided. Expected results and effects:
The results from the project will enable increased possibilities to decrease weight through increased use of lightweight materials in multi-material components. Developing resistance welding based joining methods for multi-material joints will, in addition to decreased weight, also enable a more efficient production since conventional equipment can be used for new applications.
The results from the pre-study will be used as base for a continuation project with the aim to enable implementation of one or several of the developed techniques. Approach and implementation:
