The 27th Nordic Gerontological Congress (NKG) is a biannual event arranged within the Nordic Gerontological Federation (NGF).
In 2024 the 27th NKG will take place in Sweden, Stockholm 10-years after the last Swedish congress (Gothenburg) and 20-years after the last one in Stockholm. The theme of the congress is “Ageing in a transforming world”.
The world is constantly changing, with recent crises including climate change, pandemics and wars leading to rapid and profound transformations in living conditions.
During such challenging periods, certain groups in the population including older adults and frail individuals may be particularly susceptible to negative consequences. NKG is the largest conference on ageing research in the Nordic countries as well as in Sweden. It will be located at Karolinska Institutet, Solna campus, just 10 minutes from Stockholm city.
The number of participants is estimated to be between 800-1000 people, mainly from Sweden, but also from other Nordic countries.
The congress is organized by Karolinska Institutet, the Swedish Gerontological Society, the Swedish Geriatric Association, in collaboration with the Nordic Gerontological Federation (NGF).
Throughout three intensive days, about 8 plenary lectures, and estimated from previous congresses over 40 symposia, 100 oral sessions, 150 posters, and exhibitions will reflect themes from different scientific disciplines and practice, on topics relevant to gerontology and geriatrics.
There will also be additional activities for junior researchers and an enjoyable social programme. At the 27th NKG congress, scholars, professionals, policymakers, NGOs, and other stakeholders will come together to discuss and explore questions related to ageing in a world of profound transformations.
The content of the congress will bring new insights that facilitate better living conditions and well-being for older adults and contribute to the sustainable development of current and future generations.
