Purpose and goal:
The main objectives of the continuation project ADiSS2.0 were to experimentally and by CFD investigate the impact of surface roughness on the aeroelastic response of transonic compressor vanes, (particularly operating in "off-design" point)with local separated flow on the surface of blades. Numerical results reveals that surface roughness can have an effect on aeroelastic response of the vanes.They reveal that models used to implement surface roughness in CFD need validation through experiments.
Expected results and effects:
The results from numerical simulations and measurements that have been carried out so far in the project have contributed to an improved understanding of basic phenomena that lead to blade vibrations and how this is affected by the surface roughness of vanes.This,in turn,leads to improved methods that can predict the potential occurrence of dangerous vibrations that can occur late in operation due to wear and tear.In future,this can be linked to help in decision-making regarding repair measures.
Approach and implementation:
The project included both numerical calculations and experimental measurements.The doctoral student at KTH who has carried out work within the project has completed 90% of his doctoral studies and is expected to get his doctoral degree in May 2025. Project results have been reported in scientific publications.The collaboration and knowledge transfer between GKN and KTH has worked very well,with regular follow-up meetings between the project participants throughout the project period.
