Sociologidagarna is the Swedish Sociological Association´s major national conference, which is organized every two years with the aim of bringing together researchers from all over Sweden and stimulating both the common sociological conversation, as well as more specific ongoing discussions in the discipline´s various research areas.
In recent years, we have also seen an increased participation from sociologists from other countries as well as from related academic disciplines.During the conference, current research is discussed through keynotes by specially invited speakers, as well as in various thematic and open working group sessions.
In addition, the keynote speeches are integrated with panel discussions for the recording of the podcast "Sociologipodden", an openly available podcast published regularly by the Department of Sociology and Work Science, University of Gothenburg. The theme of Sociologidagarna 2024 in Gothenburg is "Transition or Perdition".
Fataneh Farahani (Professor of Ethnology at the Department of Ethnology, History of Religion and Gender Studies, Stockholm University) and Paul Gilroy (Professor of the Humanities and Founding Director, Institute of Advanced Studies of the Sarah Parker Remond Centre for the Study of Racism & Racialisation, University College London) have accepted our invitations to give keynote speeches.
The Department of Sociology and Work Science is hosting the conference, which will take place over three days, March 13-15, 2024. The conference is located at the Lindholmen Conference Center and adjacent premises at Lindholmen in Gothenburg.
We expect about 250 participants. This application concerns conference support to cover the costs of the invited speakers and work on the planning of the conference, as well as to be able to provide grants to groups without own funds through reduced conference fees (students, invited high school teachers in the sociology subject, doctoral students and retired researchers).
