Research problem and specific questionsThe purpose of the project is to increase understanding of how both ´the administration´ as well as clinicans (hereafter labeled professional practitioners and organizationl professionals) contribute to the creation of tensions and conflicts in their work, and what organizational, as well as individual, consequences these tensions and conflicts create.
The research questions are: 1. What potential aspects hinder the possibility of collaboration and cooperation? 2.
In what ways are tensions and conflicts constructed between professional practitioners and organizational professionals in daily work? 3.
How do professional practitioners and organizational professionals perceive tensions and conflicts between them and their impact on the development of healthcare? 4.
How do professional practitioners and organizational professionals perceive tensions and conflicts impact on their worklife?Data and method The main method for data collection will be observations of professional practitioners and organizational professionals. The observations will be supplemented with interviews/conversations, organizational documents, and focus groups.
The method is qualitative, and the unit of analysis is work practices.
Societal relevance and utilisationTo offer good health and equal healthcare to the entire population, where the organization also promotes cost-effectiveness, requires an understanding and nuance of different groups´ roles and ways of functioning within healthcare for them to develop healthcare together.
However, tensions between organizational and professional practitioners are common in public organizations around the world, including Sweden.For healthcare professionals, the research will clarify which logics and work methods dominate within each field for different types of professionals. It will also be revealed how both groups contribtes to these tensions.
The research is expected to be beneficial for healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
In the long run, the research will contribute to the organization of healthcare, where different competencies are utilized.
This way, the public will benefit from the research.Plan for project realisationThe project will start as soon as the applicant´s ethical application is approved and will last for three years. The applicant will be based at the institution at which the applicant is now hired as a post-doc.
