Purpose and goal:
The main goal of the project was to build a proof-of-concept prototype of an edge-computing AI system that can autonomously detect, classify, track and catalog objects using radar and electro-optical sensors. This objective was met. In addition to the main goal, the prototype was developed so that it can be powered using batteries.
Expected results and effects:
Expected results of the project was a working prototype of an edge computing AI-based sensor system that has the ability to autonomously detect, classify, track and catalog objects.
In the project, such a prototype was produced. Moreover, the prototype can be configured to detect and classify different types of objects. The prototype was successfully tested on two different types of objects. During the testing, it was shown that the prototype can autonomously search for and track detected and classified objects and can be powered by battery.
Approach and implementation:
The plan was for the project to run through a number of phases, based on the ISO15288 standard, which are typical for research and development projects in technology.
The execution went according to plan and was very successful. One particularly successful aspect was that the project kept both schedule and budget, and that the division into phases enabled us to identify components and parts of the design that had a high technical risk and were thus able to mitigate risks at an earl stage.
The layout of the project was formative for company strategy and processes for future projects.
