TimbReVerse: Reimagining the Wood Value Cycle through Digitalisation and Reuse

Purpose and goal:

The purpose of the project is to build a European consortium and submit a research application targeting a Horizon Europe call. The purpose of the intended European research project is to minimise the amount of waste in the wood value chain, which is caused by linear usage practices and a lack of integrated data flow when processing timber irreversibly from the log to the final use in a building.

The objective of the European project is therefore to create a digital platform enabling a holistically integrated refinement and reuse of timber and its data - the TimbReVerse. Expected results and effects:

A European consortium and a research application for a Horizon Europe (HEU) call will be built. The HEU project will create a unified digital passport (UDP) for the so-called wood value cycle where information about individual pieces of wood is persistently stored and refined. The UDP will enable an efficient demand-driven use and reuse of wood over multiple product life cycles.

It will promote reusability, traceability and accountability and comprise an essential part of a circular economy for the EU. Furthermore, the societal readiness for UDP-related innovations will be raised. Approach and implementation:

In a first step, the consortium for the HEU application will be gathered and evaluated and each member´s involvement will be discussed. In a second parallel step, our ideas for the TimbReVerse will be refined and content for the HEU application will be generated. Step 1 and 2 will reinforce each other as more consortium members are contacted.

Once the project idea has matured and the partner involvements have been settled, a measurable exploitation and dissemination strategy will be drafted and added to the application. The progress and the submission will be managed by the coordinator.
