Grant Description

The aim is to investigate the relationship between sadness and physical symptoms, as well as to investigate which health-promoting strategies school nurses use in their work. The project focuses on the existential health of young people.

It can be about how children and young people reason about which strategies they use and which strategies they wish they would use to relieve and manage stress and pain.

It is of great importance to explore together with young people and school nurses health-promoting factors and strategies that increase well-being and promote health in order to reduce unnecessary drug use.In 2022, we have collected data on high school youth´s experience of pain. The data collection was carried out with the help of focus groups and Dr.

Sarah Bekaert participates in this study. A manuscript has been submitted to a scientific journal in August 2023. In 2024, we plan to continue the investigation by conducting focus group interviews with children aged 6-10-years. Ethical approval has been obtained for the study from the Ethics Review Authority. Both Dr.

Sarah Bekaert at Oxford Brookes University and our research group at Kristianstad University conduct research with a focus on the school nurse´s health promotion work to provide support to children and young people.

Through an extended collaboration that a visiting researcher grant entails, this research can be developed further. There is a great need for continued research based on children´s participation. Furthermore, questions about existential health in children and young people need to be explored.

Through Sarah Bekaerts expertise as research group leader for the Children and Families Research Group at Oxford Brookes University, the research environment at Kristianstad University is promoted.
