For three years, I will make site-specific pieces in Sápmi. I will find these places by listening to old sound recordings, searching archives and reading the landscape. It´s not just any places I want to find, I want to find the places that have been taken away from my family.
I want to find those places that my ancestors stopped talking about to protect them from grave plunder, ethnologists and archaeologists. My ancestors wanted to protect the objects and remains from being taken to museums. The strategy was good but it has also made the places anonymous to me. I want to reclaim them.
I will also use my body and my inner self to follow the tracks that I find.
The goal is that I want to regain the power to define myself, to recall my name and area and write myself into the landscape. What is important about this project is to make room for the loss of places that may never have been mourned. Give us permission to feel the pain. To give us space to grieve in order to move on.
