Grant Description

Carles Muntaner is a Professor of Nursing, Public Health and Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is also adjunct at the Department of Mental Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, EEUU.

Professor Muntaner is currently a co-investigator in two FORTE research projects: “Effekter av atypiska anställningsformer på hälsa, arbete och familjer - lösningar för framtiden i Sverige (PWR)” and “Digital labour platforms and its effects on health and well-being: a mixed-method project of gig workers in Sweden (GIG-HEALTH)”.

His research visit for two months in the Unit of Occupational Medicine at Karolinska Institutet, will greatly enhance the research conducted in these two projects and knowledge translation and education at the Unit.

The activities planned for research enhancementHis direct involvement in the projects on site will enhance result interpretation, foster in-depth discussions surrounding manuscript drafts from PWR, and drive the formulation of innovative research proposals.

By immersing himself in the research environment, Professor Muntaner will contribute valuable insights and catalyze the project´s progress, significantly enriching the overall research outcomes.

Moreover, by the time of the research visit GIG-HEALTH will have the first data collected from the survey conducted on platform workers, and by being on-site he will be able to get directly involved and provide timely feedback in analyses plans, results interpretations and participating in drafting the manuscripts.

The activities planned for Knowledge Translation and EducationHe will host workshops at the Unit, tailored for enthusiastic students (ranging from bachelor to PhD students and other senior researchers interested), focusing on his expertise areas, which encompass the conceptualization and measurement of social class, as well as the epistemology of scientific realism.
