Dr.
O’Campo is an internationally renowned Social Epidemiologist and Canada Research Chair in Population Health Intervention Research. Dr.
O´Campo´s unique scientific contributions which place her at the forefront of her field have been the pursuit of theoretical and methodological innovations in social epidemiology and generation of strong evidence to inform the design of solutions to reduce urban health inequities. Moreover, Dr.
O’Campo is an award-winning instructor and mentor and has designed and delivered theory and methods workshops on innovative research methods throughout North America and also Europe. Dr.
O’Campo plans to achieve two objectives during her time as a visiting researcher at the KI: (i) continue to conduct collaborative quantitative and qualitative research with the Precarious Work Research team on two specific studies, and (ii) design and deliver lectures and workshops on innovative research approaches within Social Epidemiology.
Dr.
O’Campo will continue existing cross-country research collaborations with members of the Precarious Work Research team on an examination of the impact of precarious work on women’s well-being using qualitative methods.
She will also collaborate with those at KI on research concerning the impact of precarious employment on family member well-being. For objective (ii), Dr.
O’Campo will design and deliver lectures and engage “hands-on” workshops that build awareness and competence in methods such as Realist Synthesis and Realist Evaluation methods, Community Based Research and how to design a strong team to support these activities, the semi-quantitative approach of Concept Mapping to name a few topics.
Dr.
O’Campo will also continue existing research collaborations with members of the Precarious Work Research team on quantitative and qualitative research papers examining how precarious employment affects the well-being of workers and their families and has planned at least two studies for this purpose.
