Chung has a background in integrative medicine but his research is broad, encompassing clinical, public health and policy research.

His research has increasingly been oriented towards healthcare implementation issues, including around how artificial intelligence (AI) solutions can improve diagnostics, treatment options and prognostics.Nilsen´s collaboration with Chung began in 2017 when Nilsen spent three months at CUHK.

They have since collaborated on studies in implementation science and policy research.Nilsen visited CUHK again in 2022, when initiatives for new projects were taken. They discussedresearch onthe implementation of AI in healthcare, an area of increasing relevance.Hong Kong is at the cutting edge of AI development.

Theyalso began planning for an Asian conference in implementation science, improvement science and health services research. The purpose of the application is to have the opportunity to develop the collaboration between Nilsen and Chung through exchange of knowledge and experience, primarily concerning AI implementation in healthcare and an Asian conference focusing on implementation issues.Nilsen has studied implementation issues since 2008.

Together with colleagues at LiU, he conducts several projects in implementation, including a Forte-funded project around the implementation of a new model for primary care´s work with mental issues, development of a checklist for orderly introduction of AI solutions in healthcare and a VR-funded project focusing on how staff interact with AI-based solutions in healthcare. The collaboration with Chung brings valuable knowledge to these projects and is expected to generate considerable mutual benefit.
