Dr. Richard White (RW) is a leading researcher and statistician from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.
His notable contributions to the field of epidemiology and statistics include 81 impactful articles, cited by over 55,000 individuals. Notably, he played a central role in creating Sykdomspulsen, a real-time health tracking system in Norway. RW has also pioneered health monitoring systems in countries like Sierra Leone and Mozambique.
His statistical tools, which he generously offers for public use, are downloaded by researchers around the globe, tallying about 3,000 downloads monthly.RW has extensively researched mental health issues, particularly those experienced by expecting and new mothers, as well as concerns related to gender identity, like gender dysphoria.
This condition has seen a significant rise in Sweden and internationally over the past decade, predominantly among young individuals. These research areas align with the focus of our team at the Department of Medical Sciences at Uppsala University.
RW excels in developing methods to process large datasets, whether it´s register data on gender dysphoria or the data from our Mom2b study.
This study leverages a mobile app´s sensors and questionnaires to gain insights into women´s mental well-being.In recent times, there´s been a concern in the medical world about the reliability of research.
RW believes in open science, meaning he supports making research methods and findings open to everyone to examine and replicate. This approach ensures the work can be trusted and used confidently by others.
He plans to bring this transparency to our projects, aiming to make our work clearer and more reliable. In simple terms, RW has the right skills in health research, statistics, and open science.
His contribution as a guest researcher would be of great value for our projects at the Department of Medical Sciences, especially on our studies on mental health concerns of mothers and gender dysphoria.
