In the midst of ongoing ecological, economic and political crises, the aim of this conference is to explore contemporary challenges and debates in social work to imagine how social work can act as a catalyst for change.
If social work is to credibly invoke values and ideals such as social justice, human rights, equality and freedom from socially imposed oppression, we must find ways to create explicit spaces and practices for emancipation.
It is important that such aspirations can be articulated and asserted as part of the struggle for a more inclusive democracy.
The conference invites contributions that explore the emancipatory potential of social work from a range of different perspectives.
We welcome researchers, practitioners, civil society organizations, activists, educators, practitioners and students in social work to engage in critical dialogue and constructive collaboration.
The aim is to create a dynamic forum for discussions about research, practice and education as well as to create conditions for mobilization and joint action.
Together with colleagues from the local, national and international community, we look forward to exploring the ways and strategies through which social work can become a liberating force to create pathways towards a just and sustainable world. The FORSA/NASSW conference is the leading conference in the Nordic context where researchers, teachers, practitioners and students in social work meet.
The conference is arranged every two years, most recently in Bodö in Norway. The conference is aimed at researchers, practitioners and others interested in social work.
The conference is hosted by the department for social work, Gothenburg and NASSW (Nordic association of schools of social work) and FORSA (Association for research and practice in social work). A total of 400 people can participate in the conference. To enable practitioners in the field, users and students to participate, we will offer a reduced conference fee.
