Grant Description

The 12th annual conference of the Swedish Health Economic Association (SHEA) will be hosted in Uppsala on April 15-16, 2024, by the Centre for Health Economic Research at Uppsala University (HEFUU).SHEA’s conference is an interdisciplinary meeting for academic and policy discussions between health economic researchers at medical, pharmaceutical and social-science faculties and health economists in the industry, regions, and government agencies, with 120-200 participants yearly. The theme of the annual conference 2024 is The Future of health economics: The Potential of real-world data in shaping health policy.

The conference aims to highlight the potential of large observational data in assessing the cost-/effectiveness of medical and healthcare interventions by leveraging natural experimental variations to shape health policy and enhance health systems´ productivity. The conference comprises presentations of academic papers, a poster session, two-panel sessions on policy questions, and keynote presentations by two internationally well-renowned health economic scholars: Prof.

Rowena Jacobs (University of York) and Prof. Anupam B.

Jena (Harvard Medical School), whose research and expertise in real-world observational data will contribute to a conference that explores the relationship between healthcare costs, patient outcomes, and quality of care.

Their keynotes will serve as catalysts for dynamic panel discussions. The conference language will be Swedish, but participants are invited to present in English, enabling non-Swedish-speaking researchers to participate actively. The conference will be preceded on April 15 by a short course (90 minutes): Analysing the comparative cost-/effectiveness of healthcare interventions through observational methods. The vision behind this event is to facilitate the dissemination of cutting-edge insights at the nexus of health economics and public health while cultivating a roadmap for upcoming advancements in healthcare.
