Grant Description

The 31st Nordic Sociological Association (NSA) conference, to be held in Norrköping on 14-16 August 2024, is part of a long-standing tradition for Nordic sociology.

Constituting a core activity of the NSA, the umbrella organization for the national Nordic sociological associations, this biannual conference is a crucial platform for Nordic sociology. The purpose of NSA2024 is to provide a venue for Nordic sociologists to meet, present papers, foster collaborations, share ideas, experiences and practices, and advance the state of Nordic sociological research.Sociological scholars and graduate students are our main target groups, although we will likely attract scholars from adjacent disciplines as well.

Based on previous attendance at NSA2022 in Reykjavik, we expect approximately 250-300 attendants at NSA2024.This year’s theme is “Sociology in a Digital World”, which will be reflected in the call for sessions and the two invited keynote speakers.

We will however ensure that NSA2024 attracts researchers from the whole field of sociology, broadly defined, with its huge variety of methods, topics and subfields, with sessions covering the whole spectrum of sociological research. We expect several contributions relating to Forte’s areas of responsibility.

NSA2024 will be organized by the Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS), under the supervision of Carl Nordlund, associate professor at IAS.

To aid us in the planning and execution of NSA2024, we will engage an external conference service company.NSA2024 is mainly funded through registration fees.

From Forte, we are applying for funding for five cost items: conference premises, costs (50%) for keynote and plenary invitees, pre-conference planning, printed material, and funding to provide PhD students at the conference the opportunity to attend the conference dinner for free. This last item will be of great benefit to attending PhD students, to expand their professional networks.
