Forum for safety in the public space with IoT

Purpose and goal:

The forum created a national connection for actors who work with safety in the public environment and IoT, and good conditions were created for spreading innovation and developing an actionable exchange. The forum focused particularly on integrity and ethics, areas in demand from innovation projects and lawyers in municipalities.

Expected results and effects:

A niched and neutral meeting place was created where participants explored privacy issues and ethics when it comes to safety in the urban space with IoT. Kista Science City and Stockholm Stad, together with IoT Sverige, participated in the Swedish Privacy Agency´s (IMY) regulatory sandbox to explore privacy gray zone issues in public life measurements with LiDAR sensor technology.

A continuation of the forum is currently not planned. The format was appreciated by all parties and can be developed. Approach and implementation:

A programme of networking meetings and workshops was designed based on the principles of including many perspectives from different roles in the system and combining doing and reflection. These activities in combination with participants from current innovation projects with concrete experiences generated good conditions for dialogue and the insight production in complex issues.

IMY´s final report describes the pilot: ”Trygghetsmätning i offentliga miljöer med hjälp av IoT-teknik slutrapport från Integritetsskyddsmyndighetens regulatoriska sandlåda om dataskydd”.
